Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea)
Echinacea is also known as the ‘king
of blood purifiers’ and is a well-researched and
documented herb with a reasonably good understanding
of how it effects the immune system. Research
suggests that the immunomodulatory effects of the
herb are largely due to the polysaccharides, the
caffeic acid derivatives and the lipophilic
components. Historically Native Americans used
Echinacea more than any other plant against skin
conditions and illnesses, including wounds and
insect bites and was also employed as a remedy for
toothache and joint pain. Echinacea has been
designated with the following properties:
immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory, alterative and
vulnerary. Herbalists often recommend it as a
prophylactic against mild to moderate colds and
influenza.

Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis)

conditions relating to the eye. In the 14th century
it was used as an eye medicine and it has been
described as a herb to ‘cure all evils of the eye’.
Today it is sometimes used to help relieve itchy
irritated eyes. Eyebright has anti-inflammatory and
astringent properties, as well as being
anti-catarrhal, making it useful to relieve watery

ear, including sinusitis.
|
Therapeutic Use
Eyebright has traditionally been used for
the temporary relief of symptoms of nasal catarrh,
hayfever, and sinusitis.

its blood circulation whilst helping to remove toxic
waste in and around the eyes. It therefore helps reduce
swelling and is excellent for tired, itchy, inflamed
eyes as well as for conjunctivitis. Also refer to
