Maintaining A Clean Bill of Health
By Liz Barrington, Natural Body Healing
Positive health care seeks not only to provide the body with a
nutritious diet, but also to ensure our channels of digestion,
circulation and elimination are working effectively and that our body has
sufficient rest and recuperation. In fact, our ability to absorb
dietary nutrients is only part of being healthy. The body
essentially needs to eliminate toxic bulk waste regularly - that is
2-3 times throughout the day. The body endeavours to eliminate increasing levels of toxicity
through the actions of the liver, lungs, lymphatic system, kidneys,
bowels, sweat glands and pores in the skin.
Good intestinal
health is central to preventing illness and disease in the body.
Whenever your colon is clean and healthy, you experience a
greater feeling of well-being. However, whenever there is
inadequate digestion and elimination, or when your colon is
sluggish and congested with stagnant waste, toxins start backing
up and contaminating the intestinal tract with poisonous
substances that get re-absorbed back into the bloodstream.
If you eat a diet that is high in refined foods and low in fibre
(primarily consisting of meat, eggs, dairy products, sugar and white
flour), you are more likely to suffer from intestinal problems.
Toxic food substances found in most processed foods, cause
considerable stress to the body and their elimination consumes much
bodily energy, so you should avoid these types of food whenever
possible.
Plenty of dietary fibre found in whole-grains, fresh fruit and
vegetables, pulses and seeds help promote good health by maintaining
bowel regularity and help to shorten the time that toxic substances remain
in the body. Exercise also plays an important role in the health of
the intestinal system. Without sufficient exercise, bowel action
slows down and the normal circulation and movement within the digestive system is
reduced.
Special cleansing diets and herbal detoxification supplements are
very supportive in the process of toxin elimination and
should be undertaken regularly throughout the year. Following
a cleansing programme, you usually feel a sense of general
well-being and you have much more energy and greater clarity of
mind.
If you follow a healthy, organic, whole-food diet with a good intake
of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, protective phyto-chemicals and
plenty of filtered water, you are less likely to have long-term
health problems than you would if you were to eat a poor diet of processed,
fried foods and take-aways that contain excess fat, salt, sugar and
chemical additives.
To help you maintain positive health,
here are a few recommendations:
-
Avoid processed food, caffeine, sugar, artificial sweeteners and
salt;
-
Greatly reduce your consumption of alcohol and unhealthy saturated
fats (found in cream, cheese, butter, biscuits, red meat etc);
-
Eat healthier protein such as fish, chicken,
spirulina, soya and
plenty of high-fibre whole-grains, beans, pulses, fresh fruit, root
and leafy vegetables - only natural whole-food rich in important
vitamins and minerals.
-
Drink at least 2 litres (4 pints) of filtered/mineral water per
day (avoid tap water which contains chemicals and hormones).
Drinking
magnetised filtered water and then add
Liquid Chlorophyll which
are so
much better for you and can help establish balance
and harmony in the body and encourage healthy bowel flora.
-
Stop smoking and keep away from any kind of social drug.
-
Exercise regularly to reduce stress and improve blood and
lymphatic circulation. Practise yoga and meditation regularly -
these
are great for relaxation and for increasing alkalinity in the body.
-
Get at least 7-8 hours of good quality sleep every night.
-
Ensure you have a
good work/social life balance, enjoy your leisure time and
pamper yourself regularly.
-
Look for natural
alternatives rather than rely solely on prescribed medication -
unless this is absolutely necessary.
-
Surround yourself
with friends and family - positive people who you enjoy being
with, and who can support you whenever you need help.
-
Always be kind,
helpful and respectful to others - simple gestures are easy to
make and often go a long way.
A balanced diet and lifestyle will enable your key bodily systems to
function as they were designed to. A body that has total balance,
harmony and happiness will become much healthier and stronger in
fighting off infection.
